In a post-pandemic setting that saw a spike in homelessness, Hennepin County set out to combat the problem in the Windom neighborhood in south Minneapolis by converting Metro Inn into affordable housing. Busch Architects was originally brought on to conduct a feasibility study, but the scale of the project quickly ballooned and collaboration between HC and Busch became paramount to completing the project in a manner that fulfilled the county’s overall vision. As it sits today, there are 30+ units available for rent with a goal of at least half to be available for people straight out of homelessness.
