This project began as a collaboration between the City of Minneapolis and Hennepin County, but quickly grew to include community groups such as EMERGE and other municipal organizations. Starting with the recognition that the Cedar-Riverside community required supplemental educational services aimed at combating the 18% unemployment rate and recognizing that 30% of adults lack a high school diploma. Such notions informed the welcoming, comfortable, and engaging space for all community members. Today, the space is accessible to the public by both visuals and logistics. Visibility and transparency are promoted by using glazing on the façade and throughout the interior. Effectively separating the staff and public spaces also promotes efficient workflow for daily operations.
